Verona has a busy commercial district along Bloomfield Avenue, and is home to several new and perennial favorite restaurants. The highly regarded Verona school system serves approximately 2,200 students and three schools in the district have been named a "Star School" by the New Jersey Department of Education, the highest honor that a New Jersey school can receive.
Pre-School: Verona offers the Verona Preschool program at Laning Avenue School for children ages 3-5. Originally designed as a nursery experience for children with special needs, today this 30-year program serves both general education and special needs children. Morning and afternoon classes are available and enrollment is based on availability and a lottery.

Middle School: Located in the heart of downtown, H.B.W. Middle School is a mix of old and new architecture, complete with state-of-the-art science labs and Media Center. Its teachers and staff empower students to achieve their potential as active learners and productive citizens through rigorous curricula and meaningful, enriching experiences. There is an emphasis on learning that promotes discovery and achievement and connections to the "real" world. The school offers more than 20 clubs to join as well.
H.B. Whitehorne Middle School: Grades 5 thru 8
High School: Recently ranked the #56 public high school in New Jersey (out of 339) by New Jersey Monthly in 2014, Verona High School has a long tradition of providing an excellent education. The school has a strong marching band and a history of theatrical productions. And its 25 varsity athletic programs have excelled (particularly the girls programs), with 32 state and conference championships over the last five years. The school mascot is the "Hillbilly."

The Children's Institute (TCI) a private, non-profit school, serving children ages 3-21 who face learning, language and social challenges.
Verona is located approximately 20 miles from New York City and offers several commuter options into Manhattan and Newark. DeCamp express buses run from Lakeside Avenue in Verona to Port Authority and take approximately 45 minutes. There are also NJ Transit buses that provide service to Newark. Verona is not located on the NJ Transit train line and therefore residents need to park at Montclair State University in neighboring Little Falls/Montclair to take trains into Penn Station – these take approximately 50 minutes.
