Stepping Stone to the Suburbs
Located a short 20 minutes from New York City, Bloomfield has emerged as a popular suburban stepping stone for first time buyers and young families from Brooklyn, Jersey City and Hoboken. The relative housing affordability and taxes, compared with nearby towns of Montclair and Glen Ridge, provide a realistic alternative for families. And Bloomfield's current growth spurt in retail, residential and entertainment venues aimed at catering to all 47,000 residents, provides incentives for families to stay once settled.
Bloomfield is home to two large, very popular parks – Brookdale Park to the north end of town and Watsessing Park to the south. Together with eight other small parks scattered throughout the town, Bloomfield creates a nice outdoor respite for its residents. Its Recreation Department and Bloomfield Arts programs are also heavily involved with creating programming (i.e., summer camps, theater productions, etc.) for people of all ages.
